psychologue TCC

Belgium-Licensed Clinical Psychologist (MSc. Psy, CBT, “Psychologue clinicienne agréée”)

A Certified Health & Wellbeing Coach with Wellcoaches, USA, I also am a Master’s Graduate in Clinical Psychology (Cum Laude) with a specialisation in Cognitive-Behavioural Therapies (CBT) from UCL, Belgium. I am Board registered with the Clinician “Visa” and the Clinical Licensure (“Agrément”) in Belgium, and thus licensed to practice anywhere in Europe. I am also an active member of the UPPCF (Union of French-speaking Professional Clinical Psychologists). This gives me another perspective on my work with patients suffering from illness, pain or burnout.

As a Belgian-American dual citizen living in Florida, I contract under my Belgian licensure as a counselor to provide free services, thanks to the patronage of organizations such as the Wounded Warrior Project, and bring mental health support to US veterans stationed in Europe.

In my coaching practice or during my consultations, I will meet you where you are with respect, warmth and kindness. However I will partner with you to uncover  your needs and strengths, and overcome blocages and challenges, or unhelpful negative thoughts. I will empower you to reduce stress and ruminations, build mental resilience and experiment with more efficient coping strategies.

I look forward to share with you tools and strategies to improve your mental wellbeing.

    COGNITIVE & BEHAVIORAL STRATEGIES

    What is CBT?

Cognitive-behavioral therapy is a short therapy that focuses on the interactions between thoughts, emotions and  behaviors. It utilizes many techniques and tools that help the patient to recognize disrupting cognitive patterns and inadaptive behaviors that feed the mental distress on one hand, and to learn and practice usefull new skills that help them face future difficulties on the other hand.

In the course of treatment, hte patient will reduce distress, inadaptative behaviors and negative thoughts by noticing disrupting patterns of thoughts that are the source of the behaviors and feed or accentuate emotional distress. The patient will also experiment or reinforce more adaptative behaviors.

TCC is the most scientifically validated psychotherapeutic approach, and has proven its efficacy for over 30 years. It is considered the best treatment approach for many conditions such as  anxiety, depression, OCD, phobias and chronic pain. It is also one of the rare approaches that has proven to be as efficient in teleconsultation than in-person.

As there are other therapeutic approaches that are most beneficial to my patients depending on the circumstances, I have trained myself in several other therapeutic modalities, including coaching, for which I am certified in the USA.

    Clinical experience

While I was in college in Belgium, as part of my thesis on “The Use of Animal-assisted Therapies for Children” I landed my first practicum experience in clinical psychology at a daytime psychiatric center for children, where I worked with children suffering from psychiatric conditions and behavioral difficulties and introduced them to hippotherapy. For my second practicum I was accepted in a therapeutic program in in the Florida Keys, in the United States, in a dolphin-assisted therapy program, where I worked with children and adolescents as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Once I moved to the United States, I worked nights at a mental health crisis center before becoming an Early Literacy Consultant and Mentor in kindergarten facilities in the Florida Keys. Later I worked as an Infant/Toddler Developmental Specialist, providing one-on-one play therapy and counsulting in particular with the families and childcare providers of children on the autism spectrum or with behavioral difficulties. Finally, I also served as a School Psychologist in schools in Colorado, where I performed diagnostic psychological assessments (IQ tests, behavioral assessments) for children with learning difficulties, developmental delays or High Intellectual Potential.
Today a dual citizen, mother of two, both diagnosed as gifted,  I currently live on the East Coast of Florida, after 5 years of Permanent Change of Station in Vilseck/Grafenwoehr, Bavaria, Germany. With my practice I consult online with coaching clients from all around the world. I also still offer free psychological services through the Wounded Warrior Project, in order to help veterans living in Europe who suffer from PTSD as they return to civilian life after years of service for their Nation.
In my Coaching practice, I specialize in particular in supporting people who suffer from burnout and / or chronic illnesses and pain. I help them tame symptoms and reduce flare-ups, burnout and pain and put in place tools and strategies to regain energy, motivation and rebuild a life full of joy.
